Rep. Schiff Statement on Deal Reached to Free Almost 50 Hostages Taken by Hamas

Washington, D.C.— Representative Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) released this statement following the announced hostage deal facilitated by the Biden Administration between Israel and Hamas:

“I feel a sense of relief regarding this announcement, which will return some of the hostages to their families and pause the conflict for four days. I extend my gratitude to President Biden for his role in this effort, and look forward to the day when all of the hostages are home.

“The deal will allow over 300 aid trucks to deliver humanitarian relief to Gaza on a daily basis. I appreciate President Biden’s leadership in helping Israel defend itself against Hamas’ continuing attacks, and in ensuring that essential humanitarian aid reaches those in need. The humanitarian crisis in Gaza has been heartbreaking, and the loss of innocent lives in Israel and Gaza has been devastating. We must continue working towards an end to terrorist rule in Gaza, and a lasting peace in the region.

“My thoughts continue to be with the hostages still in captivity, the victims of the October 7 attacks, and all of the innocent civilians who have been injured and killed since the war began."
